Massachusetts Online Lottery Launch Delayed to April 2026

What was anticipated as a groundbreaking development in Massachusetts gaming has turned into a prolonged waiting period. The launch of the state's online lottery platform, initially projected for early 2025, has now been delayed until April 2026 due to uncertainties surrounding funding. Originally, the Massachusetts online lottery was expected to begin operations within 16 months of the legislation that passed in July 2023. However, according to a report from State House News Service, the necessary $2.5 million in government funding has not yet been allocated. State Treasurer Deb Goldberg, who chairs the Lottery Commission, acknowledged the delay, stating, “We were feeling it was going to be about 16 months, and it’s probably going to take a little bit longer.” Until the state legislature finalizes the fiscal year 2024 budget, the Lottery cannot proceed, leaving the project in limbo.
