Parx Casino to Open Pennsylvania Location

Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment announced the opening of a new Parx Casino in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, set for February 3rd. This establishment marks the state’s fourth satellite casino and its 15th casino overall.

Derek Burnstein, a local Verizon Wireless store manager, expressed optimism about the casino's potential impact. “We’re excited,” Burnstein told ABC affiliate WHTM. “We’re excited to see what kind of business will come to us and to other small businesses as well. Pretty much the economic growth in the community would be good.”

Satellite casinos, such as the new Parx location, are smaller-scale venues permitted to house 300-750 slot machines and up to 30 table games. This new addition will save Shippensburg gamblers from lengthy drives to other casinos in Grantsville or York and will contribute to the local economy through the Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund.

Despite its smaller size, Parx Shippensburg will offer a comprehensive range of amenities. The casino will feature approximately 500 slot machines, 48 electronic table games, a 100-seat restaurant and sports bar with a pizza oven, and sports betting kiosks. Patrons will also have access to Parx’s online casino, betPARX PA.

Ahead of its opening, Parx Shippensburg is actively hiring for various part-time and full-time positions, including cooks, bartenders, wait staff, cocktail servers, surveillance agents, money room clerks, security officers, and table games dealers. The company promises competitive pay rates, 16 paid days off, medical and dental coverage, and subsidized employee meals.

The casino's revenue potential looks promising. Hollywood Casino at Penn National, located about an hour from Shippensburg, is Pennsylvania’s top revenue-generating casino, with November earnings surpassing $70 million. Hollywood Casino York, roughly 75 minutes away, generated approximately $7.7 million in the same month. Given its strategic location south of Hollywood Casino at Penn National on I-81, Parx Shippensburg could attract gamblers who might otherwise head north, potentially matching or exceeding the revenue figures of Hollywood Casino York and other nearby establishments.

 

The new Parx Casino in Shippensburg represents the brand’s continued expansion in Pennsylvania. The Shippensburg location will be Parx’s sixth property in the state and its second casino. Parx Casino in Bensalem, the brand’s flagship location, consistently ranks among the top five for casino revenue in the state, bringing in over $50 million in November alone.

In addition to its casinos, Parx operates four racetracks across Pennsylvania, with three of these tracks also featuring sportsbooks, further solidifying its influence in the state’s gaming industry.
