Atlantic City, NJ – Ocean Casino Resort has unveiled a groundbreaking cardless payment system, making it the first casino in New Jersey to offer this modern convenience. With over 1,800 slot machines and more than 130 table games, the casino now allows gamblers to make transactions using their smartphones.

The new cardless system, announced this past week, enables Ocean Rewards members to deposit funds directly at a slot machine or table game by scanning a QR code. This advancement is the result of months of planning and collaboration among three vendors, marking a significant technological milestone for the casino industry in the state.

“Ocean’s new cardless gaming feature is the first of its kind in New Jersey and we are excited to be leading the way in the implementation of new technology,” said John Forelli, Senior Vice President of Ocean Casino Resort, in an email to PlayUSA. “Cardless serves as a stepping stone to additional gaming developments as we work with the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and regulatory bodies on advancements such as cashless options in the future.”

The idea for cardless transactions has been on the radar for some time as casinos nationwide have been exploring this trend. Ocean Casino Resort seized the opportunity to incorporate this feature while upgrading its content management system.

The project, spanning seven months, involved the expertise of three vendors:

1. Konami: Updated the content management system, which typically helps run slot machines.
2. Genesis: Integrated cardless technology into table games.
3. NRT/JoinGO: Enabled cardless functionality within the Ocean Rewards app.

To deposit funds, customers simply open the Ocean Rewards app, scan the QR code on the slot machine or table game, and transfer money through the app. For those hesitant to adopt this new technology, physical rewards cards remain available.

“Whether it's ease-of-use for new customer sign-ups or expediency if a guest’s card is lost or inoperative, cardless allows for customers to play at Ocean with their phone and, if needed, pick up a physical card when it is convenient,” Forelli explained. “For many customers who have their phones with them at all times, it may be their preferred method in lieu of a card.”

 

Signing Up for Ocean Rewards

New customers interested in using the cardless payment system must first sign up for an Ocean Rewards account in person. This can be done at the casino’s Ocean Rewards Desk, where they need to present a valid ID and choose a PIN for their account.

Once the account is set up, customers can download the Ocean mobile app. “Log in with your Ocean Rewards account number and PIN, and you are ready to play,” Forelli said. The process is designed to be quick and straightforward, allowing players to start using cardless payments almost immediately.
