Team USA Night Highlights Minnesota’s Role in American Hockey

The Minnesota Wild will shine a spotlight on the state’s rich international hockey heritage on Saturday as the team hosts Team USA Night during its matchup against the Buffalo Sabres at Grand Casino Arena. The event, organized in partnership with USA Hockey and Minnesota Sports and Events, will honor generations of Minnesotans who have contributed to the growth and success of American hockey on the world stage.

A special Team USA Night Ticket Pack—bundled with a USA Zeev Buium shirt and a ticket to the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship matchup between Switzerland and Sweden on Dec. 28—is being offered as part of the celebration.

 

• Minnesota Wild host Team USA Night on Nov. 29, honoring over 300 Minnesota-born athletes who have represented Team USA in international hockey.

• Promotion of the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship, with games in Saint Paul and Minneapolis and special fan experiences including the Bold North Breakaway Fan Fest.

Honoring a State at the Center of U.S. Hockey

Minnesota has long served as a powerhouse pipeline for Team USA, producing more than 300 athletes who have competed in the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and the IIHF World Junior Championship. Roughly 50 of those alumni are expected to attend Saturday’s event, which will feature in-arena recognitions, video tributes, and patriotic programming throughout the evening.

“Team USA Night is a celebration of Minnesota’s enormous impact on the success of U.S. hockey at every level,” said Minnesota Wild Chief Executive Officer Matt Majka. “From the 1960 and 1980 Olympic gold medal teams to today’s World Junior champions, Minnesota has been at the heart of Team USA’s story — and that pride will be on full display.”

Among the most anticipated moments is the ceremonial “Let’s Play Hockey” call, delivered by a multigenerational roster of Team USA standouts:

• Dave Brooks, 1964 U.S. Olympian
• Mike “Lefty” Curran, 1972 U.S. Olympian
• John Harrington, member of the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” team and 1984 Olympian
• Mark Parrish, 2006 Olympian and two-time U.S. World Junior team member
• Natalie Darwitz, three-time Olympian, two-time silver medalist, and Hockey Hall of Fame inductee
• Max Plante, 2025 U.S. National Junior Team gold medalist and Minnesota Duluth forward

 

Spotlight on the 2026 World Juniors

Team USA Night also doubles as a promotional platform for the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship, which Minnesota will host from Dec. 26, 2025, through Jan. 5, 2026. Games will be played at Grand Casino Arena in Saint Paul and 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis, with additional pre-tournament exhibition games held in Bemidji, Duluth, Mankato, and Rochester.

Beyond the rink, fans will be able to experience the free Bold North Breakaway Fan Fest, offering interactive hockey activities, entertainment, and family-friendly programming throughout the tournament.
