Michigan Hits Record Numbers in April 2025

Michigan's online gambling market continued its strong performance in April, falling just shy of setting a new monthly revenue record. According to data released by the Michigan Gaming Control Board, total revenue from iGaming and online sports betting reached $290.7 million, a 23.8% increase from the same month last year and only 1% below the all-time high recorded in March 2025.

The bulk of the revenue came from online casino gaming—slots and table games—which brought in $248.1 million. That figure, while slightly lower than March’s, marked a solid year-on-year increase and underscored the continued momentum in Michigan’s digital gambling sector.

After accounting for promotional credits and other deductions, adjusted gross receipts for iGaming totaled $233.1 million, representing a 33.9% increase over April 2024. Overall, adjusted gross receipts across both iGaming and sports betting reached $259.9 million—just 0.3% short of the previous month and 28.7% higher than a year ago.

Operator Rankings

FanDuel, partnered with MotorCity Casino, reclaimed the top spot in April. The operator reported $67.6 million in gross receipts and $63.5 million in adjusted receipts. BetMGM and MGM Grand Detroit, which led in March, followed closely with $64.9 million and $61 million respectively. DraftKings, in partnership with the Bay Mills Indian Community, remained in third place, reporting $42.5 million in gross receipts and $40 million adjusted.

The growth in iGaming translated into increased tax revenue. The state collected $48.2 million from iGaming operators, while Detroit received $13.1 million from its three commercial online casino licensees. Tribal operators contributed an additional $5.6 million to their respective governing bodies.

Online sports betting painted a more mixed picture. While gross receipts were up 1.7% year-on-year to $42.6 million, adjusted receipts declined 3.6% to $26.8 million. The total betting handle rose 4.7% to $417.9 million, suggesting strong bettor engagement but tighter margins for operators.

FanDuel and MotorCity again led the sportsbook market with $19.1 million in gross receipts on a $154.6 million handle—resulting in a 12.35% hold. DraftKings and Bay Mills followed with $10.5 million on $114.9 million for a 9.14% hold. BetMGM and MGM Grand Detroit took third with $5.8 million on $53.9 million for a 10.76% hold.

• Sports betting generated $1.4 million in state taxes and $504,986 for the city of Detroit.

 

Revenue Climbs

Detroit’s three commercial land-based casinos posted $109.8 million in revenue for April, a 0.4% year-on-year increase but down 6.5% from March. Table games and slots accounted for $109.5 million, up 1.5% from April 2024. However, qualified adjusted gross receipts dropped sharply—down 79.8% to $336,021—with a monthly hold of just 2.57% on a $9.4 million handle.

MGM Detroit led the brick-and-mortar market with a 47% share, followed by MotorCity at 30% and Hollywood Casino at Greektown with 23%. State taxes from Detroit casinos totaled $8.9 million, while the city collected $13 million. Retail sports betting at these venues added $20,276 to state coffers and $24,781 to the city’s budget.

 

April’s numbers show continued strength in Michigan’s iGaming sector, with online casinos driving record-level revenues and consistent tax contributions.

April’s near-record numbers highlight the sustained growth of Michigan’s online gambling market, even as seasonal or promotional factors may be tempering further monthly gains. With FanDuel and other leading operators showing consistent performance, the state appears well-positioned for continued tax revenue generation and industry expansion in the months ahead.
