iGaming Drives Record Growth

New Jersey’s gambling industry reached a record $6.98 billion in revenue in 2025, driven primarily by rapid growth in online casinos, which for the first time generated more revenue than the state’s land-based casinos in Atlantic City. Data from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement show total gaming revenue rose 10.8% from $6.3 billion in 2024, the previous annual high. All major gambling segments posted year-on-year growth, but iGaming was the clear driver of the expansion.

Online casinos produced $2.91 billion in revenue, an increase of 22% from the prior year. That figure narrowly surpassed the $2.89 billion generated by retail casinos, marking a structural shift in New Jersey’s gambling market. Online slots and table games accounted for $2.88 billion of iGaming revenue, while internet poker rose 6.3% to $30.3 million.

FanDuel, operating in partnership with Golden Nugget, led the online casino market with $655.5 million in revenue, up 29.4%. DraftKings and Resorts World followed with $569.8 million, a 10.6% increase, while BetMGM and Borgata ranked third at $376 million, up 30.7%.

Moderate growth in sports betting

Sports betting revenue climbed 7.5% year on year to $1.18 billion, following an 8.7% increase in 2024. Online wagering continued to dominate, generating $1.15 billion, an 8.2% rise. In contrast, retail sportsbook revenue declined 12.1% to $29.5 million. Total sports betting handle fell 4.2% to $12.23 billion. Online bets accounted for $11.72 billion of that total, while $515.5 million was wagered at physical sportsbook locations. Despite the lower handle, operator performance improved, with the statewide hold rising to 9.65% from 8.54% a year earlier. FanDuel and Meadowlands remained the leading online sports betting operators with $470.1 million in revenue, up 2.3%. DraftKings and Resorts World ranked second with $325.3 million, a 12.5% increase. BetMGM and Borgata placed third at $85.8 million, up 21.5%.

Atlantic City’s casinos recorded 2.7% growth in 2025, with revenue reaching $2.89 billion. Slot machines continued to provide the bulk of income, generating $2.13 billion, up 1.7%. Table games showed stronger momentum, rising 5.7% to $762.5 million. While land-based casinos remain a major component of the state’s gambling economy, their slower growth compared with online platforms highlights changing consumer behavior and the increasing importance of digital gambling channels.

The expansion of online gambling also translated into higher tax receipts. New Jersey collected $1.01 billion in gambling-related taxes during 2025. iGaming contributed $581.9 million, sports betting generated $209.1 million, and land-based casinos added $216.8 million.

Online casinos have become the primary engine of growth in New Jersey’s gambling market, overtaking Atlantic City’s retail casinos for the first time and reshaping the state’s revenue base.

Strong finish to the year

December capped the year with total gambling revenue of $605.6 million, up 15.9% from December 2024, though 4.8% lower than November. Online casinos again led the market, producing $273.2 million, a 19.8% increase. Sports betting revenue surged 85% to $116.3 million, driven almost entirely by online wagering, with a monthly hold of 10.93%. Land-based casino revenue in December fell 6.7% year on year to $216.1 million. Slot machines generated $159.1 million, while table games produced $57 million.

Tax collections for the month totaled $100.9 million, including $60.7 million from online casinos, $24.2 million from sports betting, and $16 million from retail casinos. Taken together, the 2025 results underscore New Jersey’s continued shift toward online gambling, with iGaming now the largest single contributor to gaming revenue and state tax receipts.
