Bulgaria's National Revenue Agency (NRA) has taken measures against unlicensed online gambling this year, closing over 2,500 websites that were operating without the required permits. Throughout 2023, the NRA has pursued an aggressive strategy to tackle unauthorized online gambling platforms. In September alone, NRA Executive Director Rumen Spetsov issued more than 640 orders to shut down platforms that were operating without the necessary licenses under Bulgarian law.

Once notified by the NRA, operators targeted by these orders have three days to cease their activities. If they fail to comply, the agency refers the matter to the court, which can instruct internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to the offending sites. This process ensures that platforms failing to meet legal standards are quickly removed from the market.
