Game Suppliers in Denmark Face New Reporting Obligations

Danish TeritorryThe Danish gambling authority, Spillemyndigheden, has announced changes to its certification process, shifting more compliance responsibilities onto game suppliers. The adjustments aim to restructure the reporting system, providing a clearer division of duties between operators and suppliers in Denmark's regulated gambling market.

Under the new framework, game suppliers must now submit their own annual compliance documentation, previously handled by operators. This change also affects B2C operators that develop their own games, requiring them to file separate reports for their licensing activities and game production.

To manage these submissions, Spillemyndigheden has outlined two distinct reporting categories:

 

  • Licence Holder Certification: Applicable to operators managing licenses.
  • Game Supplier Certification: For providers submitting reports on their own games.

The adjustment introduces a more segregated approach, ensuring each entity takes direct responsibility for its regulatory compliance.

reportAlthough the new reporting process is live, stakeholders have until July 1 to fully comply. This six-month transition period allows suppliers and operators to adapt to the requirements and integrate them into their processes.

Spillemyndigheden has outlined seven certification types in its Newsletter 58. These must be submitted annually, except for vulnerability scaling reports, which require quarterly submissions. The emphasis on frequent reporting in specific areas highlights the regulator's intent to monitor critical compliance more closely.

This shift represents a move towards decentralizing compliance responsibilities within the gambling sector. By requiring game suppliers to handle their own documentation, the regulator has redistributed accountability, creating a more streamlined system for oversight.

As the July deadline approaches, affected parties must act promptly to avoid disruptions and ensure their operations align with the updated framework.
